YHA City Hostel Brisbane was the first backpackers in Queensland to offer ensuited private rooms, shared public spaces and a commercial cafe inhouse.

This building employs many sustainable features. It is passively cooled via thermal chimneys and intelligent cross ventilation systems and it is constructed from low maintenance and low energy input materials- that is they do not require expensive and complex coatings or preparation but were selected for their cost effectiveness and longevity. Via the USC's innovative programme, this building has become a model for many Green Buildings.
